INTERESTED IN BEING A WPTS DJ THIS SUMMER?

WPTS opens its studios to Pitt students and community members interested in DJing from the end of April to the end of August. A short training session and application process will be required. If interested, please e-mail WPTS training director Hannah Brizzi at wpts.training@gmail.com. You can download the application here!

BAND OF THE MONTH: EKOFIELD

Ekofield is the collaborative project of producers Jose Rodriguez (aka Mr. Hamilton) and Andrés Ortiz-Ferrari (aka Discuss). Both originate from San Juan, Puerto Rico, where they worked together on a number of projects during the 90’s before relocating to the Steel City in 2001 (Ortiz-Ferrari) and 2008 (Rodriguez). Often blending Latin-infused samples, vinyl-cracked drum blips, dense bass rhythms and beautifully constructed synth melodies, Ekofield texturally reflects their multi-cultural backgrounds. With this eclectic medley of sounds and influences comes an ability to elude the trap of any one particular genre. Ekofield’s grooves possess a hard-hitting hip-hop bounce, a down-tempo IDM ambience, and an electric soul that’s sure to make your hips move, whether you like it or not (trust me, you will). The duo is currently hard at work on their debut full-length, which they plan to release on UBeat Records in the near future. Stay up-to-date on Ekofield at www.myspace.com/ekofield.
